Tomar is a second-time MP to the Lok Sabha. He was also a Rajya Sabha member briefly in 2009.
Tomar started as a youth activist for the BJP in Madhya Pradesh, rising to become the party’s state president and was part of Nitin Gadkari’s team of national general secretaries.
Tomar was an MLA from 1998 to 2008 and a cabinet minister in the BJP governments in Bhopal from 2003 onwards. He continues to be the state party president.
Tomar is known to be close to current MP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. He along with Sushma Swaraj and Thaawar Chand Gehlot are the three cabinet ministers from Madhya Pradesh in the Modi government
