Ashok Leyland's HYBUS - India's first Plug-in CNG Hybrid bus

• Greener than CNG, 20-30% more fuel-efficient than a conventional bus

Hinduja Group flagship Ashok Leyland today announced that they had delivered two numbers of the HYBUS, India’s first plug-in CNG hybrid bus, to the Organizing Committee of the Commonwealth Games which were already being used for the movement of media persons during the Games at Pragati Maidan.

The HYBUS, which had been showcased by Ashok Leyland during Auto Expo 2010, represents the latest in green technology for urban mass transportation and is more eco-friendly than even a CNG-powered bus, thanks to the integration of hybrid technology. Compared to a conventional bus powered by an IC engine, HYBUS offers significant fuel saving of 20-30%.

“We have always led with green bus technologies in the past and the Commonwealth Games presents the ideal platform for us to showcase our latest offering -- the HYBUS that heightens both economic and ecological gains”, said R Seshasayee, Managing Director - Ashok Leyland. “Once introduced on the Indian roads, it will help reduce per capita reduction in fuel consumption and carbon footprint,” he added.

The HYBUS combines conventional CNG engine with electric drive system. The engine is operated at an optimal efficiency to drive the generator for charging on-board battery. The Lithium-Ion battery that powers the electrical drive system provides the propulsion.

The HYBUS intelligently selects the most efficient operating mode to ensure maximum fuel efficiency without compromising performance, comfort or passenger safety.

HYBUS is also equipped with a host of commuter-friendly features including ultra low entry at 390mm with kneeling option, noise-free rear engine, front and rear air suspensions and retractable ramp for wheel-chair entry.
