Power7 systems drive IBM?s Server performance in India

IBM today announced that it emerged No. 1 in the India non x86 UNIX server market in revenue terms in the first quarter (Q1) of 2011, according to IDC’s Asia/Pacific Quarterly Enterprise Server Tracker, Q1 2011, May 2011. IBM’s success in the Non-x86 Unix market segment in India was underpinned by strong uptake for Power7 servers.
According to the IDC’s quarterly market tracker, IBM maintained its leadership in the India Non-x86 Unix server market capturing 42.1% revenue market share in Q1 2011, which is 11.7 points lead over its nearest competitor. In addition, IBM’s non x86 UNIX server factory revenues grew 6.5% year-on-year inQ1 2011 over Q1 2010), while revenues of all other vendors in the said segment declined during the same period. IBM’s revenue growth in the Non-x86 Unix server segment in India was driven by strong performance in the Financial Services, communication and manufacturing verticals.
Other IBM highlights from the IDC report include:
‘Clients continue to draw benefits from the unmatched RAS features that a UNIX environment offers. In that category, IBM’s Power 7 clearly packs in twice as much performance and energy efficiency than competitive systems, and our clients across sectors and size are clearly drawing on these benefits. The IDC market ranking results for first quarter 2011 are clear proof of that. It is evident that companies, who invest in real R&D and have a robust product roadmap, stand to win client confidence. Watson, is a great example of our commitment to investing in Smarter Computing to solve real life problems.’ said Viswanath Ramaswamy, Country Manager - Power Systems, Systems and Technology Group, IBM India/SA
