Project Management Institute (PMI) is hosting its third National Conference in India from 8th- 10th September at Hotel Lalit Ashok, Bengaluru. The conference seeks to provide a common networking platform for thousands of professionals across all industries to participate actively in nation building.
There is tremendous scope in how the project management community can contribute toward the country's development. Bangalore, the host for this year's conference, is truly the home for project management in India. India's technology capital with its highly successful home-grown companies and multinationals has led the adoption of project management in India. The early project management success stories of these companies have inspired others, thereby helping to build the momentum today.
Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam would inaugurate the Conference with the theme being ‘Architecting Project Management for Nation Building’. Mr. Mark Langley, the President and CEO of PMI and Mr. Ricardo Triana, the Director of PMI would share their views with the audience for the very first time in India. Some prominent speakers like Sam Pitroda, advisor to the prime minister on public information, infrastructure and innovations, Amitabh Kant, chief executive DMIC, will add depth to the discussions on how project management can lead the country on this growth path. On the last day Mr. Narayana Murthy, former Chairman of the Board and Chief Mentor, Infosys will delight the listeners with his valedictory address.
What is unique about the conference this year is the coming together of two events, the PMI India national conference and PMI Bangalore chapter's annual conference. The theme for this year's national conference, Architecting Project Management for Nation Building, is a subject that appeals to most, both as professionals and citizens. The bonus in this year's conference is the additional track on, 'Project Management in e-Governance'. If India has to achieve the steep growth curve envisioned in the current Five-Year-Plan, the investment into projects has to bear better returns.
Over the three days, participants will also have the opportunity to listen to and interact with many other eminent speakers and experts. India is at a very important juncture in its journey to become a developed economy with vast infrastructure needs participants will discuss and formulate ways of taking India to greater heights during the conference and one cannot rule out the importance Project Management as a strategic tool to bring about this much needed development in a time bound manner. The discussions, knowledge-sharing, and networking at the conference will offer insights and the way forward towards building a stronger nation in terms of infrastructure and also highlight the importance of project management in nation building.
