Sujana Metal Introduces Hot-Dip Galvanised Steel for Infrastructure Sector

Customised ready-to-use solutions enable cost and time advantages, add to life of civil structures

This is the first time that pre-galvanised, ready-cut-and-bend TMT sections are offered in the country, customized for end-user resulting in considerable time and cost savings for customers . Normally, this is a secondary process that the customer undertakes after procuring the basic long-steel sections.  “We are the first to introduce in-house galvanizing for a very large variety of sections used in construction industry,” said Mr R.K. Birla, Managing Director of SMPL. Speaking of the life-cycle advantages of the process, he added, “According to studies, hot-dip galvanizing proves more cost-effective over the long-term to provide corrosion protection for reinforcing steel, as it can help secure the nation's infrastructure for decades and help designers strive to achieve a 100-year service life.”

Galvanized reinforcing steel is bare reinforcing steel coated with a protective layer of zinc metal. The primary purpose of the zinc coating on steel is to protect it from corrosive elements that the steel bar (rebar) is exposed to when embedded in concrete. The zinc coating imparts corrosion-resistance properties. Hot-dip galvanizing provides many levels of protection for concrete reinforcement. Constructions, particularly in coastal areas are increasingly using galvanized rebars.
