"BA Pass" wins best film award at Osian's-Cinefan festival

Shadab Kamal won the best actor award for his role of a young man who turns into a gigolo by turn of events in the film.

Ajita Suchitra Veera won the best director award for "Ballad of Rustom", a film about a young government servant with imagination sans aspirations.

Rii was awarded the best actress for her role in "Cosmic Sex", while "Patang", directed by Prashant Bhargava, was lauded with the special jury award.

At the closing ceremony this evening prizes were given out in four sections - Indian competition, First Features competition, Asian and Arab cinema and Short in Competition.

In the First Features section, Thai film "In April the Following Year, There Was A Fire", directed by Wichanon Somumjarn, was given a special mention by the jury, while "Beyond The Hill" by Emin Alper from Turkey was named the best film.

Debutante director Manav Kaul's "Hansa", a stark film about the seemingly simple lives of two children in Himachal, was given two honours - a special audience and a jury award.

Turkish movies emerged triumphant in the short films section. "Silent" by L Rezan Yesilbas was given the top honour while Olgu Baran Kubilay's "The Bus" was given a special mention by the jury.

This year the theme at Osians was freedom of creative expression and the focus was on showing landmark films in cinema history that had at one time or the other been banned by authorities. (MORE)
