Thakre, was however quick to add that Pawar's comments were in context of Gujarat assembly elections and said, "I am not aware of what happened in Gujarat."

"But as far as Maharashtra was concerned, Congress has always honoured commitments, whereas NCP ministers fielded their kin against our candidates in Nandurbar Lok Sabha seat, Raigad local bodies for Legislative council," he said.

"It also went back on its written assurance of support and joined hands with the Opposition in Vidarbha to deprive the Congress of Zilla Parishad presidents' post in local bodies where we had emerged single largest party," Thakre said.

To a question on continuance of the alliance, the MPCC President said as far as Congress was concerned, decision on this will be taken by the central leadership.

"Congress was a strong party in Maharashtra and will continue to remain so," he said when asked on the possibility of both allies going separate ways.

On Sunday, referring to Gujarat assembly poll outcome, Pawar had said the NCP fought the elections alongside Congress and against the BJP.

Though the Congress had alloted nine seats to the NCP, in five of them, Congress fielded its own candidates. And in the other four, Congress rebels contested. This was one of the reasons for BJP's return to power in that state, he had said.

"This is not the way to work together. If such things continued to happen, the NCP would rethink on its alliance with the Congress for 2014 elections, Pawar had warned.
