Fertiliser factory to be set up in Bengal

"In the interest of the farmers we are planning to set up a fertiliser factory in West Bengal," Banerjee told a government programme here.

She said that she had protested on every occasion when the prices of fertilisers were increased and said that the increase in price would affect both farmers and the people.

She also said that the UPA government hiked rail fares yesterday after burdening the people with increase in prices of diesel, petrol, LPG gas cylinders and fertilisers.

"They do not treat people as human beings. They are only making tall talk," Banerjee said.

Stressing that Asansol and Durgapur were important industrial hubs, she said she had a talk with chairman of the Steel Authority of India Limited who had said a major factory would be set up at Durgapur which would employ lakhs of people.

A mega project with an investment of Rs 12,000 crore was coming up in the Panagarh industrial park in Burdwan district.

"We need factories to create employment," she said but reiterated her stance that the state government would not acquire land forcibly for industrial purposes.

At Asansol, Banerjee laid the foundation stone of the Kazi Nazrul University, named after the rebel Bengali poet.

Banerjee said that her government was setting up 65 all-woman police stations to tackle crimes against woman.

"Of them 10 have already been set up. The rest will be set up soon. We are the pioneer in the country in setting up so many all woman police stations," she said, adding that 151 fast track courts were also established.

Banerjee who has promised to create ten lakh jobs in five years said criticised the CPI(M) for mocking her claim.

"They are saying where are the jobs, nothing is visible? Already six lakh jobs have been created -- 2.5 to three lakh in the government sector and the rest in the private sector.
