Students in Akola district of Maharashtra planted 1,80,000 trees on August 9 as a part of the Maharashtra government's programme to plant 33 crore trees, officials said on Saturday.
The 'One Student One Tree' campaign, being implemented in the government, semi-government and Zilla Parishad schools, was kicked off in the district by Union Minister of State for HRD Sanjay Dhotre.
"Environment, tree plantation and water conservation are important issues in the country, and it is very important for the students to get involved," Dhotre said on the occasion.
Akola Zilha Parishad Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ayush Prasad said every student in the district has taken this initiative to spread the message of tree plantation.
