T S Rajan, the then telephone mechanic posted at Pipla Telephone exchange in Maharashtra, has also been slapped with a total fine of Rs 10,000 in the case.
"CBI had registered a case against T S Rajan, telephone mechanic, Pipla Telephone Exchange, BSNL, district Nagpur on the basis of a complaint alleging that the accused had demanded a bribe of Rs 1,000 from the complainant on April 4, 2002 for early installation of his telephone connection," CBI spokesperson said here in a statement today.
The statement said after registration of the case, CBI laid a trap and Rajan was caught while demanding and accepting the bribe from the complainant.
The trial court found the accused guilty and convicted him, official said.
