Acting on a tip-off, officials deployed at Kalnai bridge intercepted four persons identified as Masood Ahmed, Nisar Ahmed, Ikhlaq Ahmed and Dalmir in Thathri belt of the district yesterday.
Upon investigation, eleven pieces of sapphire were recovered from Nisar Ahmed of Doda and Dalmir of Hoshiarpur, Punjab, they said.
The two accused were arrested however, Ikhlaq Ahmed and Masood Ahmed managed to escape from the spot, police said.
Police have registered a case under section 4/5 of Sapphire Act and efforts are on to nab the absconding accused.
