12.6 lakh women have availed skill dev training under SKIS

About 12.6 lakh women have availed skill development training through 10,000 training providers across the country under the Skill Development Initiative Schemes, Lok Sabha was informed today.
Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy said training was being imparted through 402 women ITIs and 1134 women wings in ITIs and every year 1,41,907 women trainees were being trained across the country.
"Training is also provided through Skill Development Initiative Schemes through 10,000 training providers across the country under which 12.6 lakh women have availed the benefit since its inception," he said during question hour.
Similarly, under the flagship skill development scheme Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, launched this year, there was a significant participation of women for skill training.
"A total of 94,227 women have been enrolled for skill training out of a total enrollment of 2,12,000 during April-July 2015," Rudy said.
The Minister said in pursuance of the 12th Five Year Plan directives on economic empowerment, the government has been implementing a number of skill development schemes for enhancing the employability of women.
Some of the important initiatives in this regard include exclusive training of women through National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) for Women, Noida and 10 Regional Vocational Training Institutes (RVTI) located at Panipat, Jaipur, Tura, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Thiruvananthapuram, Indore, Vadodara, Allahabad and Mumbai.
Since inception, NVTI and RVTIs have trained around 1,17,884 women till October, 2014 in various training course, Rudy said.
Similarly, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) being implemented by Ministry of Rural Development, provides for placement linked Skill development Programmes under which there is a mandatory coverage of 33 per cent women candidates in each Skill Development projects.
DDU-GKY has a target of skilling 3.4 lakh women during 12th Five Year Plan period against which 1.7 lakh women candidates have been imparted skill training and 1.32 lakh women candidates have been placed in jobs as of June 2015, he said.
