14 killed since Friday in rain-related incidents in U'khand

Two persons were killed in rain-related incidents in Uttarakhand today even as the showers subsided at most places including Dehradun where the sun emerged in the afternoon after a couple of days.
The MeT department has forecast a decrease in rainfall from today onwards which may lead to lowering of water levels in the rivers.
"Though widespread rains from across Uttarakhand were reported this morning, they were moderate at most places and heavy only at a few, mostly in Dehradun, Haridwar, Tehri, Almora and Nainital districts.
There will be further decrease in rainfall from today onwards with a drop in both intensity and distribution," said MeT Director Vikram Singh, adding that there was no 'heavy rain' warning for the state today or the next 3-4 days.
The current spell of heavy rains has affected the Chardham Yatra with the highways leading to the Himalayan shrines of Badrinath and Kedarnath still blocked.
Sahdev Chohri, a bank employee, was killed in Uttarkashi when the car he was driving fell into a swollen Bhagirathi river after being hit by a boulder due to a landslip, said Dharasu police station in-charge Ravindra Yadav.
The mishap occurred on Rishikesh-Gangotri national highway when Chohri was on his way from Chinyalisaur to Uttarkashi where he used to work in Punjab National Bank, he said.
It took NDRF and SDRF personnel four hours to recover the body from the river.
A child drowned in Badhedi Rajputana village of Haridwar district after being swept away by flood waters this morning.
With these incidents, the number of casualties during the current spell of rains in the state has risen to 14 since Friday.
Two more persons from Jamalpur Khurd village of Haridwar district drowned late last night.
Four persons were killed in Tehri district last evening as their car was hit by debris falling from the hill due to a landslide triggered by heavy rains.
One woman was killed on Saturday morning when the bus she was travelling in overturned after being hit by the overflowing waters of a swollen canal at Haldwani in Nainital district.
A tree fell over a cowshed late on Saturday evening in Uttarkashi killing one on the spot and leaving two injured of whom, one succumbed on way to the hospital.
A car skidded off the road and fell into a gorge, killing three and leaving two others injured in Pauri district on Saturday evening.
