The incident came to light yesterday when the house owner S Sumathirai(62) of Kalyanapuram village had gone to Coimbatore along with her son, they said.
Neighbours noticed the door of the house broken open and informed Sumathirai, who rushed and found 150 sovereigns of gold, and silver articles worth Rs 2 lakhs stolen from the house.
Forensic experts were pressed into service, police said.
