The Maoist cadres had a number of criminal cases registered against them and surrendered before the security forces at an event conducted to commemorate the National Unity Day and the 142nd birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
"A total of 16 Naxals surrendered in the Sheohar district. They will be rehabilitated as per the policy of the state government," SSB Inspector General (Patna Frontier) Chanchal Shekhar said.
The Maoists are in the age group of 35-50 years and had cases under the Arms Act, the Explosives Act and the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) registered against them, a senior SSB officer said.
The SSB, a border guarding force, has deployed its 27th battalion in the Sheohar district of Bihar to undertake anti- Naxal operations.
