Two brothers who used to target persons withdrawing huge amount from banks and rob them, were arrested from Shantivan area in Delhi, police said today.
With the arrest of Mohd Shafiq and Mohd Sartaj, police also claimed to have solved a case of Rs 29 lakh robbery committed by the duo on May 15.
Explaining their modus operandi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav said Shafeeq would first enter the bank, identify the person withdrawing huge amount of money, then, both the accused would follow the person and, at an isolated place, overpower and rob him.
On May 15, the duo, along with another accomplice, robbed a senior sales manager of a real estate company and his associate, of Rs 29 lakh at gunpoint in Kalyanpur area, the officer said.
"The manager and his associate went to withdraw cash from a bank in Preet Vihar. They collected Rs 29 lakhs and after putting cash in two separate bags, they proceeded to Noida in their car," he said.
When they reached Dharam Shila chowk, two bike-borne assailants attacked them at the signal. The assailants broke the window panes of the car and stole the bags containing Rs 29 lakhs cash at gunpoint, he said.
Shafiq and Sartaj were arrested from Ring Road near Shantivan yesterday, and Rs 8 lakh was recovered from them, the officer said, adding that their third accomplice would be arrested soon.
