Two persons were killed and four others, including three policemen, were today injured when clashes erupted between Muslim Brotherhood supporters and police, authorities said.
Supporters of the ousted Islamist president Mohamed Morsi organised a number of small protests in Talbiya district here, 6th of October City as well as other Egyptian governorates.
Clashes took place when the police tried to disperse them, the Cairo Security Directorate said.
The protestors started demonstrations after the Friday prayers and chanted slogans against the army and the regime.
A student was killed and a policeman and two conscripts were injured in Fayoum governorate during clashes between security forces and protestors, the state-run news agency MENA quoted a security source as saying.
The protests came in response to the invitation of The National Alliance to Support Legitimacy (NASL), the largest coalition supporting Morsi, which called on its supporters to protest today in solidarity with all detained students and Egyptians who have been evacuated from Sinai by army to create a buffer zone.
Weekly demonstrations after Friday prayers have been common since Morsi's ouster last year.
The number of protesters has greatly decreased after the government crackdown on Islamists, in which several Morsi supporters have been arrested and dozens of the Brotherhood's senior leaders are currently in jail.
Morsi is currently in prison over charges of killing peaceful protesters, espionage, escaping from prison during the January 25 Revolution in 2011, and insulting the jurisdiction.
He is also charged of spying and handing documents of national security importance to Qatari intelligence through the Qatar-based Al-Jazeera news channel.
So far he has not been sentenced in any case.
