A senior police official from Quetta said that both the police constables who were on traffic duty were shot at by armed men on motorcycles in the Saryab road area near a market.
"Both policemen, head constables Naseeb and Munir Ahmed had received multiple bullet wounds and were rushed to hospital. One of them died on the way while the other succumbed to his injuries in hospital," SP Imran Qureshi said.
Qureshi said they were indications the attack was carried out by militants.
So far this year, around 97 policemen have been killed in such targeted attacks.
A report in the News International said that the attacks were being carried out on the policemen on the direct orders of Taliban chief Maulana Fazlullah after law enforcement agencies gunned down Taliban militants in Karachi.
