The gold was seized from three persons when they arrived by a flight from Kolkata.
"Kolkata police had arrested one person, said to be an associate of the trio. Therefore, we had informed them about it and two police officials from that city arrived here today to investigate the matter," DCP Crime Abhishek Goel said.
He did not rule out the involvement of 'a big hand' behind the smuggling attempt, going by the quantity seized.
Police said the three persons, all hailing from Tamil Nadu, were not carrying relevant documents to support their claim they had bought it from a bank in Mumbai and produced a photocopy of the 'purchase receipt'.
