Two trucks, carrying paddy from Bihar for illegal sale in Punjab, were seized on Wednesday in Bathinda district by a team of state food and civil supplies department, an official statement said.
Acting on a tip-off, a vigilance team of the department raided the premises of a rice mill at Rampura Phul in the early hours and seized the trucks, the statement quoted state minister for food and civil supplies Bharat Bhushan Ashu as saying.
During the raid, one of the trucks, carrying 600 bags of paddy, was being unloaded inside the mill, while the other vehicle with as many paddy bags was parked outside, the minister said.
The paddy was procured at a low price from Bihar for illegal sale at much higher prices in Punjab.
One of the truck drivers was nabbed, the statement said.
