Acting on a tip-off, a police team detained 21 Indians while they were trying to smuggle 7,700 kg of betel nuts into India in Bhadrapur area in Jhapa district in eastern Nepal, according to an official at the Central Police News Room.
The security personnel fired shots in the air to bring the situation under control after the smugglers attacked the police.
The police is carrying out further investigation into the matter.
Meanwhile, another Indian national identified as Shumru Namosudaru was arrested from Mechi Municipality while trying to smuggle 150 kg of betel nuts into India, police said.
