24 accused acquitted in massacre case in Bihar

A district court here today acquitted 24 accused in a 15-year-old case related to massacre of 22 Dalits by activists of outlawed Ranbir Sena, private militia of upper caste landlords, in Jehanabad district.
Additional District Court judge Raghvendra Kumar Singh acquitted 24 accused in Shankarbigha massacre case for lack of sufficient evidence against them.
On the late night of January 25, 1999 armed activists of Ranbir Sena gunned down 22 Dalits while 14 were injured at Shankarbigha village of Jehanabad district.
A native of the village Prakash Rajvanshi had lodged a FIR naming 21 persons and 3 suspects in the case with local police station.
A total of 49 witnesses were produced before the court in the case.
