'25% of Tata's power generation can be from renewable sources'

Identifying renewable energy as critical for national infrastructure strength, Tata Group Chairman Cyrus Mistry today said up to 25 per cent of the conglomerate's power generation could be from renewable resources.
Speaking at the seventh edition of the Vibrant Gujarat Summit here, he also said Gujarat government's policies, agile administration and providing logistical infrastructure support was key to fostering a competitive domestic industry.
"Ahmedabad is among our first few cities when we launched our new airline AirVistara," Mistry said, adding that "as the chairman of the group, I reassure sustainable growth of the state."
"We believe that the critical national infrastructure strength is going to be renewable energy and have decided that 20-25 per cent of our total power generation can be from renewable resources," Mistry said.

He further said Tata group has already built a solar plant in Gujarat and also began to establish a significant wind energy foot print in the state.
Group firm, Tata Power is one of the largest renewable energy players in India and it has developed the country's first 4,000 MW Ultra Mega Power Project at Mundra (Gujarat) based on based on super-critical technology.

Lauding the Gujarat government for providing an "exceptional logistical infrastructure and an agile and responsible administration", Mistry said: "In an environment where states compete for capital and talent, its essential that Gujarat creates the appropriate policy environment and infrastructure to ensure it fosters a competitive domestic industry."

Sharing the state government's vision of "inclusive development", he said: "It is for this reason the Tata group companies are significantly in the state in the areas of water management, education, skill development, livelihood generation and natural resource conservation."
Mistry also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for releasing a commemorative coin on January 6, to mark the 175th birth anniversary of Tata group founder Jamsetji Tata.
