Highlighting the important role played by teachers in shaping the future of children, he said it has become more significant today with most children having working parents who have little time to interactwith them.
"These days when parents are mostly working and children get less time to interact with them, teachers have assumed a role perhaps even more important than parents. They must create an atmosphere in their schools where children can imbibe Indian values and culture to keep our heritage alive.
"Here, teachers can step in to impart these values and traditions to the youngsters," Paul said in the presence of Chief Minister Harish Rawat and School Education Minister Mantri Prasad Naithani.
Greeting the teachers on the occasion of Teachers Day and Ganesh Chaturthi, he said this was an occasion for thanking all the teachers of the country whose consistent efforts have placed India on the path of progress.
Paul also asked teachers to keep upgrading their knowledge and skills to keep themselves abreast with the changing times.
Teachers must know that technology will help them teach and help their students learn. Teachers can incorporate technology directly into their practice at the classroom level, he said.
Chief Minister Harish Rawat, who was the special guest on the occasion, said teachers were making great contribution to the development of the state by spreading the light of knowledge.
Congratulating teachers conferred with the Governor's award, Rawat said he was happy to see that most of the awardees were women and teachers from schools in remote areas.
