2nd shift in unaided schools to be allowed: Walia

Delhi government today decided to allow running of a second shift in private unaided schools in the city in view of shortage of schools.
Officials said the modalities for allowing the second shift will be finalised within a few days and the Education department will issue necessary orders accordingly.
Education Minister Kiran Walia said government will allow running a second shift in unaided recognised schools keeping in view the increasing population and educational requirements of the students.
She, however, said adequate infrastructure should be developed in the schools which would like to start the second shift.
Walia was speaking at a meeting of Delhi School Education Advisory Board.
Officials said modalities of allowing a second shift in unaided recognized schools were debated and accepted by the Advisory Board.
A meeting of the Advisory Board had in December last year referred the matter to a sub committee.
The sub committee, after detailed discussions with the stake holders, prepared a report which was submitted to the Advisory Board today.
It was decided in today's meeting that the modalities with regard to opening of the secind shift will be completed within a few days and the Education Director will issue necessary orders.
Walia said school managements will have to ensure that there will be no compromise in quality of education in the second shift.
