3,134 pigs & piglets have died of PRRS & CSF in Mizoram

At least 3,134 pigs and piglets have died in Mizoram due to outbreak of Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) and Classical Swine Fever (CSF) diseases since March till date, an official said today.

Joint Secretary in the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department, Dr Hmarkunga told PTI that the figure was collected from all the eight districts where the outbreak had spread.

Hmarkunga said that at least 7,098 pigs and piglets have been taken ill till date.

The outbreak has affected over 100 villages in eight districts, he said, however, adding that the outbreak has waned since the past three weeks.
