Three people were arrested on charges of cattle smuggling today from the Haryana-Punjab border here, police said.
They were illegally carrying 13 bulls in a truck from Punjab to Uttar Pradesh, they said.
The police got a tip-off that cattles were being taken to Uttar Pradesh from Punjab, and a check-post was set up on the Ambala-Chandigarh Highway near here, Suprintendent of Police (SP), Ambala, Abhishek Jorwal said.
The officer said as soon as the truck reached there, the police stopped it and 13 bulls were recovered from the truck.
The bulls were glutted in the truck, the SP said.
The accused were identified as Rijwa, Md Faiz and Mumtiyaj, all belonging to Meerut in UP, the officer said.
They were booked under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Act, Jorwal said.
