3-day workshop on autism begins

A first-of-its-kind workshop on autism by the National Trust in collaboration with AIIMS was inaugurated today by Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thawarchand Gehlot.
The three-day workshop will be training health care practitioners to become master trainers for autism and these trainers will be further teaching these skills to more professionals.
In order to maintain uniformity and standard of assessment two types of tools are being recommended namely - International Clinical Epidemiology Network (INCLEN)and Indian Scale of Assessment of Autism (ISAA).
"Divyangjan (disabled persons) are an integral part of Human Resource and the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is dedicated for their welfare. Very soon we will increase their categories from seven to nineteen," said a press statement quoting the minister.

Dr Vinod Agrawal, Secretary, Department for the welfare of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) said soon many tourist places, airports and railway stations will be made disabled-friendly.
