Three labourers were crushed to death by a speeding truck near the municipal corporation building here, police said on Sunday.
The incident occurred near the main gate of the building on Saturday night when the truck crushed the three labourers to death, triggering a protest by locals who blocked the road for three hours.
Another person was seriously injured in the incident.
City Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajvansh Singh said that the deceased have been identified as Arun Modi, Shanichar Sah and Narayan Mandal.
Sadar Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Ashish Narayan said that Rs 4 lakh would be paid as ex-gratia to the next of kin of the deceased.
The police seized the truck while the driver fled the spot after the incident, the police said.
The cleaner of the truck was being interrogated.
