High Court judge Kumuduni Wickramasinghe sentenced two of the accused to ten years rigorous imprisonment while the third was sentenced to five years rigorous imprisonment, Daily Mirror newspaper reported today.
The Tamil rebels, Robert Maxillan, Saveri Muttu Loganathan and Thirumagal alias Ramani, pleaded guilty to the charge of having conspired to explode a bomb on a crowded passenger train at Dehiwala, a Colombo suburb, on July 27, 1996 that killed 58 and injured 270.
The Army defeated them in 2009 after a bitter fight which left nearly 300,000 people displaced.
