3 party meet to discuss Nepal Constitution ends inconclusively

A meeting of Nepal's three major political parties to discuss the formation of a high level committee to resolve issues relating to the Constitution as well as providing relief to the families of those killed during the Maoist insurgency, ended inconclusively today.
The meeting attended by Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and UCPN (Maoist) was held at the Prime Minister's Office at Singh Durbar.
The high level committee was meant for seeking consensus on the key issues of the constitution as well as resolving the issue of compensation to be paid to the victims of decade long Maoist insurgency in the country.

The meeting, however discussed issues relating to the resumption of the stalled parliament session and promulgating the new constitution within stipulated time frame, according to Nepali Congress sources.
The opposition parties led by UCPN-Maoist has been obstructing the Parliament meetings for more than a week to press for their demand of setting up the high level committee.
According to Nepali Congress Vice-president Ramchandra Poudyal the parties will try to forge consensus on disputed issues of the constitution by September 30. If they fail to forge consensus on this matter then it will be tabled as a proposal at the meeting of Constituent Assembly to be held on October 7, so that a majority vote can resolve the matter instead of seeking to forge consensus among parties.

The meeting held discussions on the form of governance, restructuring of the state and resuming the house with the implementation of four-point agreement reached between the government and the opposition in the past, according to UCPN (Maoist) Vice-chair Narayan Kaji Shrestha.
The political parties have agreed to convene the meeting again to settle the disputed issues.
