The West Bengal Assembly Tuesday passed an amendment in the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (WBNUJS) Bill paving the way for 30 per cent reservation of seats in the institution for students domiciled in the state.
The amendment bill was placed by the Law Minister Moloy Ghatak and was passed by the Assembly.
"It is considered necessary and expedient to amend the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences Act 1999 for the purpose of making provisions of reservation of seats for the student domiciled in the state of West Bengal," the amendment bill read.
The amendment also provides for fee waiver to at least five per cent of the students from the poor and economically backward sections of the society.
