Seven of the cinema halls where the movie was screened were in Gurgaon, which saw violence yesterday including a shocking attack on a school bus ferrying students by a frenzied mob protesting the release of Bollywood flick 'Padmaavat'.
The Haryana Police chief described the attack on the school bus as an "isolated" yet unfortunate incident and revealed that his own grandson too studied there.
A total of four FIRs were registered in connection with the incidents of violence in Gurgaon and Kurukshetra, he said.
"Twenty three persons have been arrested in Gurgaon and two have been arrested in Kurukshetra. Eight others have been taken into preventive custody," the DGP said.
He said that 100 persons in Faridabad who protested against the movie were released yesterday after a warning.
Asked about the attack on a school bus in Gurgaon yesterday, the DGP described it as unfortunate incident.
"The incident took place 20 km away from Gurgaon. The hooligans first torched a Haryana Roadways bus and thereafter, pelted stones at a school bus. It is an isolated incident. As and when police came to know about the incident, it reached the spot and took action," he said.
Asked whether the police had identified those behind the attack on the school bus, the DGP said they were local boys. He said investigations were underway whether they had any link with Karni Sena.
Asked about Rajput leader Suraj Pal Amu, who had reportedly offered a Rs 10 crore bounty for beheading "Padmaavat" actor Deepika Padukone and director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Sandhu said he was not allowed to move outside his house in Gurgaon.
"Amu wanted to go to the MG road today in the morning. He was stopped and was asked to stay inside his house," said the DGP.
