Marine Police Inspector Kumaravel told PTI that during regular patrolling, his team spotted two persons moving in a suspicious manner after disembarking from a boat at Mandapam.
On checking, the team found that the two were carrying a parcel around their waists containing gold biscuits.
The customs officials have been informed and the duo-- Tamilarasan (42) and Kalidass(29)-- arrested, he said.
The gold had been brought from Sri Lanka. This was the first time that such a large quantity of gold had been seized by the Marine Police in a coastal area, though similar seizures had been made in Nagapattinam district, Q Branch Police Inspector, Kennedy said.
