4,983 complaints against UIDAI operators for charging money

Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), which issues Aadhaar cards, has received 4,983 complaints till date for charging money from residents, Parliament was informed today.
"Till date, 4,983 complaints have been received at the UIDAI contact centres for allegedly charging money from residents. Actions such as suspension, black listing of operators etc are taken based on the outcome of the investigation of such complaints," Communications and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad today said in a written reply to Lok Sabha.
He added that 11,974 operators have so far been suspended or blacklisted on account of misconducts such as corruption, process violations, poor data quality etc.

"If enrollment agencies are found complicit, then in such cases, the respective Registrars -- mainly state governments -- are asked to investigate the matter and take suitable action," the Minister said.
Answering a separate query, Prasad said a total number of 12 and 2 cyber incidents involving misleading job ads for fake recruitment were reported during year 2015 and 2016 (till March), respectively, according to data reported to the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In).
"Such incidents are reported by affected organisations, users and law enforcement agencies," he said.
In order to resolve such incidents, CERT-In examines the details and coordinates response actions with concerned hosting and service providers for disabling the fake information and obtaining relevant details for facilitating further investigation by law enforcement agencies, he added.

Further, the effected organisations are advised to create awareness among users regarding such fraudulent activities, the Minister said.
