Two suspected narcotic smugglers were arrested on Wednesday after 40 kg poppy straw was seized from their vehicle in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.
Gagandeep Singh and Amandeep Singh, both residents of Ludhiana (Punjab), were apprehended during checking at Jakhani on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, they said.
In a separate incident, a drug peddler, identified as Mohammad Majid, was arrested after 10 grams heroin was found on him at the Jakhani Chowk area, a police official said.
Another peddler, Jeevan Singh of Ramnagar, was nabbed from the Circular Road area with seven grams heroin, he said.
The official said three separate cases were registered under the NDPS Act against the arrested people and further investigation was underway.
