The fire, in the Mangalwar Peth area, started when an LPG cylinder exploded in a house and spread, leading to several similar blasts in the adjoining structures, they added.
"During the fire, 12 LPG cylinders exploded and 15 tenements were gutted and 40 to 45 (tenements) received damages ," said Assistant Commissioner of Police Kishor Naik.
Four persons sustained minor burn injuries and the cause of fire is yet to be ascertained, the officer said.
Meanwhile, fire brigade officials said they received a call at 2 PM and 15 fire brigade vehicles were pressed into service.

City Mayor Prashant Jagtap said the Pune Municipal
Corporation has ordered a probe into the fire and sought a report from the Fire department in this regard.
"We have sought the report from the fire department within next couple of days," Jagtap said.
He said the civic body has given directions to rebuild the tenements, which were either gutted or damaged in the blaze.
