The accident happened near Kanti Chowk under the jurisdiction of Town police station, the police officer said.
As a result, three persons, including the bus driver, died on the spot while another passenger died in a hospital, Superintendent of Police (SP) Hari Prasath S said.
Out of the 27 passengers injured, the condition of seven passengers was stated to be critical.
The seriously injured passengers were taken to Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) at Muzaffarpur while the remaining 20 injured persons were admitted at Sadar hospital here, the SP said.
The bodies were sent for post-mortem, he said.
