40 killed in twin mine blasts in China

The death toll in China's twin mine accidents rose to 40 today, with the number of dead in Sichuan province blast reaching 28.
China's southwest was rocked by two mine blasts within a space of 24 hours. Yesterday, the blast in Sichuan Province had left 22 miners dead and 16 others injured.
81 miners were rescued from the Taozigou coal mine in the city of Luzhou, according to an official statement.
An investigation into the accident is underway, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
On Friday evening, 12 miners were killed and two others injured in a colliery gas explosion in the southwestern Guizhou Province, local authorities said.
