Bodies of a middle-aged person and four of his family members were found from two places in the city early today.
Bodies of Shankar Malakar, his second wife and their three-year-old daughter were found from their Garfa residence in the city early this morning, a senior Kolkata Police official said.
In a similar recovery, bodies of Malakar's first wife and their 11-year-old son were found from his Harinavi residence in the southern fringes of the city, he said.
Prima facie it appears that Malakar first murdered his first wife and son at his Harinavi residence last night and then came to Garfa where his second family lived, the officer said.
While he strangulated to death his daughter from the second marriage at Garfa, the woman resisted his attempt to murder her and in the ensuing scuffle both died on spot, the officer said.
The bodies were spotted by the neighbours this morning and the police was informed.
According to preliminary information, Malakar was facing crisis on personal and professional fronts and this led to the tragedy.
"The throats of both the first wife and his son were found to be slit. Whereas the three-year-old girl was strangulated and there were injury marks all over the body of Shankar and his second wife and their throats were also slit," said another official of Kolkata police's detective department.
A team of DD have already visited both the sites. All the bodies were sent for post-mortem.
