Five Indians, including two women, have been arrested on charges of theft in two separate incidents in Dubai, media reported today.
An Indian worker with the help of two compatriots allegedly stole 150 scaffoldings worth Dh5,000 (USD 89335) from his employer, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.
On September 23, the company's manager received a phone call from the project manager telling him that the two workers identified as JM and RH and an unidentified person were loading scaffoldings in a pickup vehicle that did not carry the company's name.
An unidentified man who saw the three loading scaffoldings took a picture of them and sent them to the company's project manager, Emirates 24|7 news reported.
The manager informed the police who arrested the three Indians. The court will reconvene on November 22.
In another incident, two Indian women have been charged with shop-lifting from a Dubai garment shop.
The two women, aged 20 and 25, allegedly entered a fitting room in a shop for branded garments last month and stole 10 pieces after removing the security tags.
A complaint was lodged against the women, identified as MR and NA, with the police after which they were arrested.
The two were presented before the court yesterday.
Dubai is known for luxury shopping, ultramodern architecture and also for its nightlife. Indians constitute about 30 per cent of UAE's total population.
