6.8 magnitude quake off western Mexico: US seismologists

US seismologists measured a 6.8 magnitude earthquake off the western coast of Mexico today, with no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
The US Geological Survey said the quake struck in the Gulf of California at 1755 GMT and had a depth of about 10 kilometres (6.2 miles.)
It hit some 74 kilometres (46 miles) southwest of Etchoropo, Mexico.
US officials from the Hawaii-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said that the quake did not create a risk of dangerous tidal waves.
