Sixty special forces personnel from the three armed services participated in a joint training camp at the Andaman and Nicobar Islands this month, the Defence Ministry said.
The annual exercise was conducted under the aegis of Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff with a view to further integrate the services in the field of special operations.
Earlier this month, Navy Chief Admiral Sunil Lanba, who is also the Chairman, Chiefs of Staff Committee (COSC), released the Joint Training Doctrine Indian Armed Forces-2017, aimed at ensuring synergy amongst the three defence services and optimum utilisation of resources.
This year the exercise was conducted from November 4 to 22.
The supporting assets for the exercise included C-17, C- 130, AN-32, Dornier aircraft, Sea King, MI-17 V5 helicopters and amphibious ships.
Various special operations training events were carried out during the exercise including special heliborne operations, reflex firing drills, survival training and anti- terrorist operations.
The highlight of the exercise was the airborne insertion of marine commandos at sea in tandem with combat expendable platform drops with inflatable Gemini craft from C-130 aircraft at night along with combat free fall and special heli-borne operations.
