A 60-year-old daily wager allegedly hacked his 34-year-old son to death in a scuffle over the latter's demand for buying a scooter, in Pariyej village of Kheda district, police said today.
The incident occurred yesterday when the accused, identified as Raman Rohit, repeatedly struck his son's head with a pickaxe while fending off the deceased identified as Kanaiyalal, they said.
"Raman Rohit had killed his 34-year son Kanaiyalal by hitting a pickaxe several times on his head yesterday in Pariyej village of Matar taluka of Kheda district and later he surrendered before us," said sub-inspector of Limbasi police station A R Chavda.
Police said Kanaiyalal wanted to buy scooter but Rohit was opposing this citing his poor financial condition.
However, the argument between them took an ugly turn when Kanaiyalal tried to hit his father with a pickaxe, he said.
The officer said Rohit while defending himself snatched the pickaxe from Kanaiyalal and started hitting on the latter's head until he died.
Rohit later appeared in Limbasi police station and narrated the whole incident, Chavda said, adding that a complaint has been registered on the basis of the statement of the accused.
Rohit has been charged under various sections of IPC, including 302 (punishment for murder), he said.
