60-yr-old man killed as Phailin lashes Srikakulam dist

A 60-year-old man lost his life today in a cyclone-related incident in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh while a youth died at a relief camp as cyclonic storm Phailin lashed the east coast, disaster management sources said.
The 60-year-old man died when a wall collapsed on him during the cyclone at Bulivadu village of the district.
At a relief camp at Kaviti, meanwhile, a 27-year-old fisherman died in his sleep in the early hours today, a disaster management official said.
State Disaster Management Commissioner T Radha told PTI here that 19.8cm rainfall had been recorded at Itchapuram, 15.42cm at Kaviti, 14.76cm at Kanchali, 10.8cm at Kothabommali and 10.7cm at Sompeta in Srikakulam district, which have borne the brunt of the cyclone since yesterday.
"The sky is clear. We are cutting uprooted trees to clear traffic. Everything is normal and peaceful," Radha said.
Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy reviewed the situation with Chief Secretary PK Mohanty this morning and asked the administration to focus on speedy rescue and relief measures, particularly in Srikakulam district.
The Chief Secretary said all teams were in place for taking up relief operations.
Meanwhile, official sources said the 10th warning signal in Kalingapatnam and Bhimili, and the eighth warning for Visakhapatnam and Kakinada were continuing.
Eight crest gates of Thotapalli barrage at Vizianagaram district were lifted this morning to let out flood water.
