7 RS MPs elected unopposed as PAC members

Seven Rajya Sabha MPs were elected unopposed as Public Accounts Committee (PAC) members, with three from the BJP, two from the Congress and one each from the Trinamool Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal, sources said Monday.

The new PAC members are: Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Bhupendra Yadav and C M Ramesh of the BJP; M V Rajeev Gowda and Bhubaneswar Kalita of the Congress, Sukhendu Sekhar Ray of the TMC and Naresh Gujral of the SAD, sources said.

Of the seven Rajya Sabha slots on the Committee on Public Undertakings, the BJP got three with Om Prakash Mathur, Mahesh Poddar and Anil Jain being elected.

Other members of the committee are: Mohammad Ali Khan of the Congress, Prasanna Acharya of the BJD, Surendra Singh Nagar of the Samajwadi Party and A K Selvaraj of the AIADMK, the sources added.

It is also learnt that of the 10 Rajya Sabha slots on the Committee on the Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, the BJP got four and the Congress two. The TMC, BSP and CPI-M got one each. Nominated Member Narendra Jhadhav also included in the committee.

These committees are of Lok Sabha and their tenure is up to April 30, 2020. The tenures begins on May 1 every year, but the election was delayed due to reconstitution of Lok Sabha following general elections.

Against the 10 Rajya Sabha slots on the Committee on Welfare of OBCs, also a Lok Sabha Committee, the BJP and the Congress got two each, followed by the JD(U), SP, CPM, DMK, AIADMK and TRS one each.

The tenure of this Committee is one year from its first meeting.
