In a complaint to District Collector Archana Patnaik, today, the mother of the girl said the edge of the cane hit the left eye of her daughter studying in the second standard.
Without attending to the injury, the daugther was sent home, with a swollen eye, she alleged. She claimed that even the headmistress neglected her complaint and sought punitive action against the teacher and the school management.
Archana directed education department officials to look into the complaint and submit report at the earliest, official sources said.
