About 8,500 additional CISF personnel will be deployed for Delhi Metro security duties in the near future, keeping in view the expanding network and increasing load of commuters.
The force, at present, has deployed about 4,500 troops to secure the operational 149 stations of the rapid rail transport system, but has been seeking more manpower for some years now due to increasing passenger load which at any time is about 27 lakh per day.
Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) Director General O P Singh said about 8,500 men and women will be earmarked for security duties at the Delhi Metro, keeping in mind the third phase expansion of the network in Delhi and adjoining areas.
This fresh manpower would be drawn from the newly recruited batch of over 22,000 personnel that the force has hired recently and they will begin training from April 1, a senior official said.
The official added under the third phase, 15 stations have been made operational while 77 are yet to be functional.
"The new CISF manpower will be evenly distributed to cater to the needs of the existing Metro network while the rest will go to the third phase induction," the official said.
Additional CISF troops are required to man vantage positions, frisk people and be part of the quick reaction teams that are positioned around stations to thwart possible terror attacks to the facility.
