8-month-old baby orphaned after parents commit suicide

An eight-month-old baby boy has been orphaned in a village near here as his parents allegedly committed suicide in their house after a quarrel between them, police said Thursday.

The child's father working in a private firm was an alcoholic and he used to frequent quarrel with his wife, the police said.

On Wednesday, the man got drunk, came home and got into a dispute with his wife.

When he went out, the woman allegedly hanged herself. When he returned home, he found his wife hanging and he too ended his life by hanging, police said.

Neighbours informed the police and the bodies have been sent for a postmortem.

A case has been registered, the police said.

A pall of gloom descended on the village as the couple's child has been orphaned.

The baby was handed over to the couple's relatives who had rushed to Puducherry from Tiruchy upon getting the information about the deaths, police said.
