9 held for betting in IPL match

Nine persons have been arrested for allegedly betting in an Indian Premier League match played between Delhi Daredevils and Kolkata Night Riders, police said today.
On a tip-off, a Crime Branch police team led by Inspector Sanjiv Kumar Yadav went to Sarai village where the accused persons were betting on the match which took place yesterday in Kolkata.
On seeing the police team, the accused men attacked them with battens and stones. Two of them even fired shots on police leaving ASI Dei Lal and another cop injured , Yadav said.
While some of the men managed to flee, police nabbed nine persons identified as Imran, Bakaar, Mushtak, Umshad, Nisar, Aarif, Abbas, Aamir and Aarif, he said.
Police have seized a country-made pistol, an empty bullet, a television set, a set-top box and Rs 6,900 cash.
The accused have been booked under relevant sections of IPC, Arms Act and Gambling Act and were produced in court today.
